Presentation

The Shakespeare Festival Barcelona is an international theatre festival. It is a cultural festival where multiple languages and artistic disciplines come together around the figure of William Shakespeare. The works of the great playwright have become a common language between cultures, a shared playground where we can engage in dialogue and push boundaries through exchange and joint creation.

The mission of the Shakespeare Festival Barcelona is to promote Catalan culture and its integration into the European and global theatre scene through the universal values of W. Shakespeare’s works with a contemporary perspective. Additionally, through the European Shakespeare Festivals Network (ESFN), we foster collaboration among various festivals across the continent, offering an international program and creating new opportunities for live arts creators interested in working with Shakespeare, both within and outside European borders.

Reestablishing the Shakespeare Festival, which had already celebrated eleven editions in Catalonia (2003-2014), some of which took place at the Teatre La Biblioteca in Barcelona, aligns with the international push that La Perla 29 has been undertaking in recent years. In this context, the Catalan company La Perla 29 becomes the promoter of the festival, which, being the only one in Spain, represents a significant opportunity for the consolidation of artistic talent in the region and for establishing a European meeting point.
